  • rksport header discussion, are they too big?

ok before all of you run in here and say that rksport headers just flat out suck (we all know they leak) lets make this an educated discussion. heres my question, i have a friend whos pretty knowledegable - who told me that my 1 3/4 primary rksport headers are too big for my motor.

he owns a Grand Prix with the 3.4L DOHC engine, and says that hes not even doing that big for his, maybe 1 5/8. and that 1 3/4 will kill low end torque altogether and maybe even wont be useful for high end because they are like 1.5' (from what i can remember i didnt measure them).

anyone got any useful answers/knowledge on this? im curious if this is a fact and rksport headers are really a load of crap and i should find others to file a class action suit against them or something for stupidity (kidding).

    anyway. just curious, thanks.

From what I have seen in doing some research, yes, the rksport headers are too big for both 3.4L and 3.8L N/A cars.

For a car running nitrous or a supercharger, I do not know. I would venture to say that the size would still be pushing it for a nitrous car, but perhaps not a supercharged car running a good amount of boost.

Their primaries are also way too short.

Its the same idea as in port & polishing a block. In an N/A block you dont want to increase size much because you want to keep velocity up. Same deal with headers. The 1 3/4" are simply too big to keep the velocity up.

Are they better than stock manifolds? Probably, yes.

Are they the best solution? No.

Are any headers out there a "best" solution for our engines? Not that I know of.

You at least want some equal length headers with 36" primaries and tubing size of about 1.3" (I am taking the 1.3" from memory, could definitely be wrong) into a 2" collector that is about 14" long. But that wold be a custom job.

      Whoa, 3 foot primaries?
      And this isn't advanced tech.

i guess this would fall into exhaust instead of avanced tech. it was late at night and the gremlin in my head (pesky gremlin) told me i should speak of header dynamics in the advanced tech section. sorry everyone. feel free to move this post where it needs be.
