Please help, what year did the firebird become throttle by wire?
Please help, what year did the firebird become throttle by wire?
I am close to getting a 2000 firebird v6. I just need to make sure its cable driven and not drive by wire. I called many dealerships and got all different answers. Some say 98-00 same engine, and late 2001 are throttle by wire. Others have never heard of it, please clarify.

Do you mean throttle by wire? Where the throttle body is electronically controlled instead of with a cable? I think it was in 2000 that they switched if that's what you mean.

From the tech database here on this site, the section on changes by model year:
In 1999 the L36 saw its first redesign since its introduction in late1995. A new intake manifold was introduced that was straight, not angled slightly as in earlier years. The cable-controlled throttle was replaced with an electronic "drive by wire" system. The new throttle plate opens and closes by way of an electric motor based on inputs from the TAC module, which reads pedal position and movement with three different sensors.
as far as i know the only cable driven was the 93 94 they started putting the 4l60E the 93 had a 4l60 i know this pretty good cause i switched from a 4l60e to a 4l60 the e stands for electronic as in not cable driven i have no clue about the newer ones but i doubt they went back to cable driven
