• Will I lose performance if I get a catback system.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to know that if I change my exhaust system to a catback, will I lose any performance?

Right now, I've got a flowmaster on.

Thank you :D

no, it will help performance. Now there are limits to size though. This will start a flame war but i will say it anyway. 2.5" inch pipes have been tested to give the best performance. If you look at Borla, Triflow and other cat back systems for the V6 they are all 2.5". If you go above that you will lose low end power unless you have a supercharger or turbo. I have a flowmaster with 2.5" pipes from the cat and it sounds great and was cheap. You might want to look into just getting bigger pipes for the flowmaster of yours.

I'm going to move this to the Exhaust forum....

what size are the stock pipes from the cats to the muffler? Also, how much are borla's or triflows?

stock pipes are 2.25" crush bent. V6 exhausts from borla and B&B are 2.5". I still say that 3" exhaust will work fine at lower altitudes, but that's just me. anything bigger than the stock pipes is a good improvement.

Yes, my brother has a huge 3" exhuast set up. It sounds good at low RPM's but pops a little on the high end. He also said he lost a bit of low end power.

well talking to Rich D (one of the fastest Firebirds ever) and I always talk to him before I do stuff.

2.5" is the best for NA
3" for nitrous.

I was the rebel who wasn't sure which path I was going so I did 2.75" and I'm happy with the sound and performance. I still have a wicked low end.

BTW, James/Magnus, I wish he didn't sell his car for his Ford Lightning. I think he would have taken you both. His 13.2 was on a 75shot. He was pushing 125 and then he sold the car before he could hit the track. Sorry...just felt like posting that...
