  • First Time Angled Throttle Body Experiment, Look!

Well I'm getting a deal on parts for a second throttle body, a free SLP 75mm MAF sensor from a car with 5000 miles on it, and free retuning from Texas Speed so here's the plan:

    1. Fully Port the shaft from the 3.8 angled throttle body, remove the stock MAF.

    2. Fully polish and smooth the inside of the throttle body. Seal the top half where the MAF hole was.

    3. Remove the factory MAF screen and ring. Shorten the throttle body about a quarter to a half an inch for better clearance from the radiator and a smoother turn.

    4. Use a wire conversion to hook the stock MAF wire to the SLP 75mm hookup if necessary, as done on the Turbo Grand Nationals. The SLP MAF will retain its screen for airflow straightening.

    5. Use the SLP 75mm MAF inline with the cold air intake, like on an LT1.

    6. Have the computer's MAF tables recalibrated for the SLP sensor.

    7. See how she runs!

Any ideas, suggestions, problems I might not be considering?

shouldn't have any problems. The grand prix's have been doing it for some time now using the SLP MAF and throwing those tables in. I personally have a angled throttle body ported and put a 99 MAF in it and put the 99 MAF tables into my PCM using my HP Tuners. A lot of guys like their SLP MAFs though so enjoy it.

Oh yea, leave the screen in the SLP MAF. It flows plenty already

Anyone happen to have the stock SLP MAF tables? I could use them as Texas Speed doesnt have them. Also, I would have to change the wire setup correct (use the three-five wire MAF plug converter)

Isn't that SLP maf an 85mm MAF? You will need the 3-5 wire plug converter to connect it up.

You use the 1998 ls1 maf tables with the SLP maf (According to people from clubgp and intense-racing.com). So Texas-speed should have that, but if they don't they can get it from the .bin repository or from http://www.3800pro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3272 which has a bunch of different tables.

Also, to maximize flow, how are those ported MAF ends that are sold for the factory sensors? Any problems with them causing the MAF not to read correctly if the screen is left in?

I am not sure what you are talking about with the ported MAF ends.

Found the answer already, and Im referring to the MAF ends that you can buy for the LS1's that are ported out for less restriction, apparently they dont work well though. Thanks! I will update everyone as soon as its on the car.
