Didnt know where to put this- QUESTION!!

I just got my billet MBA grill inserts from RK Sport today. These are the nice ones with holes in them. The install directions said that some people remove the hood padding all together after installing the inserts to make the hood functional- Is this true, and what use does the padding have aside from sound deadening? I thought that its just sheetmetal behind the stock plastic ones.

i thought appearance too but if it becomes a functional hood wouldnt it help cool the engine? I just thought this would be the best place....

I replaced my hood vents before and I put the padding back on. It can act as some sort of fire retardend (god forbid) if your engine flames up, it helps insulate the paintjob on your hood from excessive engine heat, and it helps deaden sound your engine makes.
If you remove the padding, the only thing it will do is blow a little bit of air onto the engine. No performance gains. The vents are strictly an appearance, unless you can think of a way to put a ramair setup to them.
