  • Cat Question from a newjack

    Hello all,
I just bought a 2002 Firebird, 3.8 and have already started some basic upgrades including a full MSD ignition and Flowmaster catback (which has not been installed yet).
My question to anyone who may be able to help is : before I do the exhaust, I was hearing some stuff about high flow catalytic converters. are high flow cats worth it? What will be the improvement? and who makes one for the 6 cyl....if it even exists?

Do a search. They exist for every car. Depending on what size piping your flowmaster is, you can find a high flow cat to match the size.

itll sound alot better and gain a little more hp from your entire exhaust system with a high flow cat. Youll need a "S" pipe as well unless your catback came with it already.
Will do anything for an LS1

Yes, get a high flow one or get rid of yours. I'd put a bullet muffler in its place.

You may do that, but check your local emission laws before doing such.

Thanks for the input. As I am new to the hobby of learning about engine work, I do not know much.
Will a high flow cat damage anything under the hood without upgrading my headers? Is it worth it? I am looking for a major sound... but have no intentions of changing headers.

you should get a programer and tune up your computer.

Yeah... a programmer is definately in the near future. As soon as I do my cold air intake. Matter fact, I'm trying to get my flowmaster catback installed today. VERY EXCITED!
Any suggestions as to what programmer would be best?
