About the aftermarket hood...
I am not trying to squash your hood idea but some research on any particular hood is a good thing to invest in. They are not all equal. they never seem to fit perfectly and some of the 'large, multiple heat extractor hoods' (similar to the one you posted) have so much material 'missing' that they can flex and crack the paint. For real. not messing with you.
Do you know about 'free ram air'? You know, where you cut holes in the nostril 'hood latch bulkhead?' That DOES work. It mimmics the factory 'firehawk' method of ram air.
Also, just doing free airbox mods on the 'airbox cars' works great. (gut bottom of airbox and remove stock air bellows and replace with smooth bellows) check out my site for guides and info on airbox mods.
Most aftermarket hoods will require either a proprietary airbox, such as the suncoast hoods, or a modified 'stock airbox' such as the raised WS6 air box (or firehawk...i forget)
Just be careful when choosing a hood. try to read reviews on them. check out the v8 camaro/firebird message boards as well. you will see what I mean.
I opened up the nostrils, added a whisper lid and raised the airbox as high as it would go. Now I can see the underside of the K&N filter when I look through the nostrils.
I was concerend about the heavy rains here at first, but it has never been a problem. In any case, I'll take my "through the nostrils" ram air versus the scoop ram air thingy that goes down toward the ground any day.I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
