  • Exhaust question

Ok, so i'm not really a mechanic of any kind, but back in November i bought a '99 Camaro and totally fell in love with it. So after reading many of the posts on this site i've decided to start buying some parts for it. Thought i'd start with an intake/exhaust system, so i'm planning on getting a whisper lid and a SLP cold air induction package. As far as the exhaust goes tho i'm too sure.

At first i figured my car had the stock exhaust, its only a single pipe, got a fairly nice throaty sound but its not that loud. But about 2 weeks ago i had to get this rattle from the exhaust fixed (turned out to be loose hangers), and the mechanic told me i had a flowmaster. Needless to say i was kind of suprised, so the question is: Was the mechanic mistaken? if not then what type of flowmaster is it? and should i get a better/different one?

Comments would be appreciated, here are some pictures:

it looks to be a flowmaster 40 series. the 80 series has dual outs so its got 2 pipes out with one in. for the dual look. its got a lower tone, but rasps just like most above 3K.

i cant tell from the pic, but every flowmaster i've had has said flowmaster on it, but it might be on the other side, looks like one though... but you thought it was quiet? wow, it might be the 50 muffler, but if you want somethin louder try slp loudmouth, flowmasters sound pretty good inside and out, but i don't think it gets much louder... maybe someone else knows that has one.

I was thinking the same thing.. but the mechanic said it was a Flowmaster, and he was under there looking... maybe he saw something on the otherside.

And yea, like i said, its not very loud. Often times i'll get droned out at a light by other cars, although it does sound quite a bit louder than my friends mustang. I'm thinking of getting a new cat back anyway cuz the piping back there is 2.25 i think.
