  • Installed my SLP CAI yesterday

It wasnt too hard to do... I had my best friend help me and he brought his dremel which really helped out. The only problem we had was popping out the 2 plastic pin thingies above the airbox. After much pulling and tugging I just got a hammer and pried it off easily. LOL The air deflector was a little difficult to get out cause it kept getting hung up on something but after a little wiggling we got it all out, measured the pieces to be cut, cut it with the dremel and then sorta sanded the edges down better... I cleaned the pieces the best i could then we put the intake itself in as well as all of the other pieces. Perfect fit!!! Only real problem we ran into was drilling 2 holes to secure the duct... we broke 2 drill bits doing that... LOL It was so stubborn.

Anyways i then drove to the store and noticed on the highway it seemed to effortlessly get up to 70-75. It seemed like i had a little more power.

I dont notice any difference in sound and for some reason i thought the car would be a little louder.

Anyways the install wasnt bad and i was so worried i was going to mess up something.

So do you think it was worth the money? I have a 1999 silver firebird and I am thinking about getting a CAI.

Did you get the air lid and K&N with it? Getting the air lid enables you to take out the air silencer (of course you can take it out other ways too). That usually makes it a little louder. If you didn't take that off it probably won't be louder.

You will probably really notice it when you accelerate from about 40 to 70+.

You are lucky you had a Dremel, I did it with a hacksaw type blade by hand. It sucked. A Jig Saw would probably work good too.
SLP CAI, K&N, Whisper Lid, 180* thermo, manual fan switch, 3.42 gears, Auburn Pro LSD, Wester\'s PCM Tuning, TSP Rumbler, High Flow Cat. Best Time: 9.909@71.58 (1/8 mile)

SILVER99 --- I think it was worth it. I would get it to help the car "breathe" a little better.

mjparme -- I bought the K&N Air Filter about 3 weeks ago... and basically put that in place of the stock filter. I might get a whisper lid or something later on and take out the silencer but for now i got the stock lid.

I recommend the CAI. I have a 2000 with the Whisper Lid and K&N Filter. If you have an aftermarket exhaust it will have a deeper sound. And you notice a difference on your top end speed. You dont have to buy the whisper lid though, you can just cut the baffles out inside the stock air box and save yourself some money. If you go this route, I suggest getting the piping so you can remove your noise dampener, or big air box connected behind your filter box.
