I need a new muffler, I have a Flo-Pro dual out. Sounds like **** after 2 years. I don't wan't any cat-backs, or anything else, no 80 series. The Flowmaster 40 series 942043/942443 or the 50 series 942053/942453 are recommended for 82-98 V-6 Camaros. Does anyone know how these sound? Also I was thinking of getting a single in/out 40 or 50 series, non-Delta Flow. Would either of these sound decent. I just wan't loud and powerful sound at low rpm's. I don't care about upper rpm rice. These are my only choices, so don't try to convince me into another brand.

Is there any reason you're not wanting to go with the standard 80 series crossflow single in/dual outlet muffler that flowmaster provides? They're quite cheap and sound nice, heck I like them anyways and quite a few people here do too.
The 40 is quite loud, the 50 is a lot quieter... I think the 80 sounds best personally on these cars but its up to you.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

My brother had 40 series on his camaro. Sounded pretty good. I was surprised, but he changed to a 3 inch borla. Now it sounds even louder, and it pops quite a bit. The 40 series on his car didn't seem to do that. Just my 2 cents. he he.Thanks, <br />JAM<p>02 Firebird GT

What year/engine Camaro did he have?
95Silver: I haven't got the Flowmaster 40 series yet, but-from what I've read on this board, the 40 series is louder than the 50, and the Delta is supposed to be quieter just on the inside. I was going to go with #942443 (that's the Delta; not sure about the Non).
At work someone has the 40 Series, but that's on a 4.3 s10 truck, it really sounds good though.

I just wan't to be different :D . I'm not saying the 80 sounds bad. I just don't wan't a muffler designed for a V-8, that is on lot's of cars. If Flowmaster says the single in/out would work for aa V-6, then shouldn't it(I know not to believe everything you hear ;) ). I'm going for simplicity, and don't care about looks, ex. dual tips. I just want good, deep, powerful and loud. No 80 series [img]graemlins/evilgrin.gif[/img] .

I just got my 40 series put on my 3.4 friday. I love the sound, and the price(it only cost me $50 for the muffler, installation, and turndown pipe! :eek: ). It is a single outlet, so I just dumped it right after the hanger. It has a nice rumble at low rpm's. It's not as loud at idle as I was hoping, but my cat has 104,000 miles on it, so that is probably why. High rpm's sound pretty good, not that that matters, but it does get a little raspy around 4,500. I think you should go for the 40 series, it's a good choice.

A little off topic, but I saw JAM mentioned popping: The popping can be fixed by replacing the cat with a glass pack: a tube with fiberglass in it. Dont know exactly how it works, but it seems to get rid of that horrible popping. The 40 series is basically a canister with some metal baffles to keep it from getting too loud without decreasing the flow. Yes, if you get a glass pack or a highflow cat that will probalby get rid of the poping.
This was my brothers car. He has a 98 camaro. Personally I liked the sound of the 40's series. It has a nice tone. Reminded me of old muscle cars.
The borla big 3 inch exhaust he put on, I think does not sound as good. It is alot louder, and as I mentioned it pops. Not sure if he has a high flow cat or glass pack. But, I just felt the 40 series sounded better. Just my personal preferance though.Thanks, <br />JAM<p>02 Firebird GT

Sorry for the wait, I had to get my inner y-pipe welded to my outer y-pipe because it was rattling pretty bad. I'm not sure if it's a delta flow or not, I meant to ask the guy today but I forgot, I can find out tommorow and let you know. I haven't heard an 80 series in person, but the muffler guy said it was definately louder than the 80. When I'm cruising around all I hear inside is a nice low tone, quiet but nice! It really opens up when you get on it though :D ! I can barely even hear mine at highway speeds, not annoying at all. Mine is pretty deep right now, but the guy told me that it would be substantually louder and deeper with a high-flow cat (my next purchase). If you want a quite cruising muffler, but loud when you get on it, this is the muffler you want. [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

Agreeded, the 80 series has more metal baffels in the canister so it won't be as loud. The 40 has the same properties you described, only louder. Depends how much you want to hear your exhuust I guess. He he.Thanks, <br />JAM<p>02 Firebird GT

That's exactley what I want :D . I want to get attention when I rev it up and I wan't it to be really loud an deep/powerful. But I would like to know if it is a Delta or not. No hurry though [img]smile.gif[/img] . Thanks for the help :D :D :D .
Oh yea, should I get a hide away turn down tip, one big 3 or 4" tip, or a dual SS style drivers side tip????

I went with a turndown pipe because mine is a single outlet. I'm not sure weather they make a dual outlet or not, I heard different answers. I wouldn't go with a single tail pipe, it would look stupid IMO. If you can get a dual outlet I would go with dual SS tail pipes. If you get a single outlet I would go with a turndown pipe. I'm in the computer lab at school right now, so as soon as I get home I'll call and find out which one mine is and let you know!

In the 40 series you can get single input and dual output. As far as tips, yes use whatever you like.
I wouldn't recomend using strait pipes. No back pressure can harm the engine. I wouldn't try it myself. He he.Thanks, <br />JAM<p>02 Firebird GT
