been thinking about this and did a search with no good results...

Anyone modified the plastic piece underneath the car to allow fresh air in to the compartment?

My original thought is that K&N would have included a piece to allow for this, but just curious.

Yeah, I've actually thought about this too. I haven't seen anyone do this yet, so i don't know if it is a good idea. I hope it is because im planing on doing this when i get my SLP CAI. I hope we are talking about that same thing, the black plastic board under the stock airbox right?
It makes sense cutting a hole through it that would allow the intake to attract more air by being closer to the ground w/out a blockade.

I believe this is what you're talking about...

Random Technology used to make a kit for this. I've seen several homemade scoops as well.

I used to run something similar...

I have been thinking about trying this for years. Let me know if you guys find any improvement after the install.

I highly doubt there will be any improvements to this. The whole idea of doing this is to give the intake more room to breathe, more cooler air and to increase the air pressure inside the air well at higher speeds. As said so on FunkZ's link,"Sucking cool air from under the car is a lot more efficient than sucking it through the hot engine compartment". Plus i bet you can hear the intake more clearly because of the open hole.

                    gugdathug3,
Your post seems to contradict itself. You say there will be no improvements, but yet giving the intake more, cooler air should give an improvement.

My intake is already in the front of the tire, so I am not sucking air from the engine compartment. There is already a series of small vents to feed the intake, but I suspect a larger scoop should help at speeds. The question remains, how much?

                      SpeedingFirebird,
Im sorry for the mix up. By improvements i thought you meant Horsepower.. because i still doubt there will be any, and if there is its probably going to be 1hp max.

thanks for the replies guys...may give it a try.

Just seems that K&N would have thought about that when making their kits.

Hence why I'm debating if it truly necessary
