  • o2 sensors and o2 sims... whats the diffrence?

This might sound like a stupid question but what is different about a o2 sim to a o sensor?

o2 sim is a o2 simulator to take the place of the real one and trick the computer so it gets one constant reading all the time. Kinda dangerous if you are ever in a lean condition.

They are used on 96 and up OBDII when the cat is removed. Check out the the 02 sim near the bottom of the page on this link. http://www.fasttoys.net/9398fbodyexhaust.html

you don't want constant reading all the time from the pre-cat o2 on obd2. if its constant it will set code and you'll stay in open loop.

constant is okay for post-cat sensors, since these sensors monitor the efficiency of the cat. you want a more steady voltage output from that one, which won't happen if you gut your cat and leave in the original post-cat o2. thats what the sims are for. a sim in the place of a pre-cat sensor will set a code and leave you in open loop. bad fuel economy, tcc clutch does not engage, more exh emissions.
