  • Cold air intake users -- re:cleaning

Installed SLP CAI about 6 months ago, just checked to see if the filters were dirty, and they seem ok, but lost some of the red color from the oil, but nothing major trapped in them. How often do you guys clean (recharge) yours? When the color fades or when they're really dirty? It's just such a PITA lol!

I always clean mine during every oil change. I know it's a bit much, but I'm already under the hood so I clean it anyways.
I soak the filter in a bucket of warm water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid, then take it out and hose it from the inside - out. This way it sprays the dirt out of the filter and not back into it. Let it sit for an hour or so, spray a light mist of WD-40 on it, then reinstall.

WD 40? You don't use the K&N filtercharger oil? Or does it matter what kind of oil you coat it with?

Doesn't really matter to me. They both have the same texture and smell. So instead of paying K&N $15 for their new filter-oil, I just use WD-40. Works great!

WD 40 huh, never heard of this either. I have a lil bit of that K&N Oil left from the kit I got, guess next time Ill use that and finish it off, then after that try WD40, lemme know how it goes.

The little spray can of K&N oil lasts like 8 cleanings.. never had a problem having some around.
