• Pacesetter Install Q's

I just received my pacesetter headers and y pipe. I dont want to spend a couple hundred dollars to have these installed. The only thing i want a shop to do is weld the y pipe to the cat.

now for the people who have installed headers themselves.

How hard would you rate the install?

I dont really have anything but a hacksaw to cut the existing y-pipe, so my question is can the existing y pipe be cut off by a hacksaw?

Does anyone have a link for more detailed instructions than the ones provided by Pacesetter?

Finally, my knowledge of cars is limited but more extent than the average. I have installed rims, i can change my own oil, intake, and other stuff like that. Out of a scale of 1 - 10 i rate my abilities about a 5. So with that said would you reccomend i do this myself or pay someone to put these on? Thank you in advance for any help and/or opinions given.

Yes your y-pipe can be cut by a hacksaw...just takes time

I would rate the install at about 8 just because of the time it takes for a normal do it yourselfer.

Put in the headers from the bottom. Remove the starter heat shield on the driver's side for more space. As for your y-pipe, get the some full length threaded bolts because you'll most likely bottom out the ones they gave you and get someone ripped to tighten them down.

Your headers....tighten bolts from the center out....it’s an important step. After install, start car and let reach operating temps. Turn off car of course and tighten down the bolts. Let cool and repeat....and repeat....and so on and so on. Check all bolts frequently....like every day until no change has occurred. Get mechanics gloves to help prevent cuts and burns if you want.

As for if I think you should do it or pay someone to do it....lets just say I believe the rating of yourself will go down after this

EDIT: also, along with reading others reviews in the search section ;) , spray the bolts the day before and morning of with some penetrating oil to help the process and to hopefully avoid a broken bolt in the head

aside from time which i have plenty of. My license is suspended till late this week so i have a lot of time to do it right. how hard would you rate it without time being an issue.

How much can i expect to get my y pipe welded to my cat?

well, mine took over a week to do....had a few problems to deal with

i'd still rate it moderatly difficult. as for the welding price, depending on were you go, i would pay no more than 25ish

Mine took 6 hours, not too hard. Hardest part I would say were the y-pipe bolts (which I evntually broke off :-p) and the heat shielding. Oh and don't expect your EGR to fit ;)

Does anyone have a link for instructions including pictures? I just want to make this process as easy as it can be.
