  • Y87 muffler question..

Jsut a thought is the y87 muffler the dame as a stock z28 muffler jsut different tips and a different inlet?

Seems cheaper for GM to do it that way, I was jsut wondering.

No, it is different. Inlet size is 2.25", and it does not have tips.

Hey guys I have a question for you all. I want to get rid of my single outlet muffler and want to get something that wouldn't really hurt the performance, have duel outlets, and be a little better sounding while still being relatively quiet. I heard an exhaust system on a Y87 car and liked it a lot! Now my question is if I got a Y87 muffler do you all feel this would be free enough flowing for my car this way I might get some kind of a gain? I really don't care for the way 6cyl. sound with aftermarket exhaust systems on them. At idle they sound AWESOME just like an 8cyl. but at high RPM they just really turn me off to aftermarket systems. No offense to anyone that has an aftermarket system or likes that sound I'm just more of a V-8 guy. I've gotten to used to the way my 502ci in my '69 Camaro sounds.

I am jsut trying to find out if htey are the same muffler, seems alot fo people want hte Y87 muffler for performance, I am seeing if its the same as a z28 muffler, just different inlet and tips. a reducer will solve the inlet problem, and most people would change the ips of hte Y87 anyways. Just a used z28 muffler is easier and cheaper to find then a new or used y87 muffler.

if you want performance then most of the time going with factory parts wont cut it, a few people have gone with a dynomax muffler (1 in 2 out) for performance and sound. But nothing beats the sound of a cutout.....
