Well, the best way to do it is take it to a shop and have them install them. I had my whole exhaust system(headers, highflow cat, y-pipe, piping, and muffler and tips done for $200, I believe they charged $130 for the headers and y-pipe. But if you want to do them yourself you might want to have a friend help you with it. Definately makes it easier with two people. But either way it is a time consuming job

Yah I guess so. Its a small little shop that does a lot of muscle cars. It pays to shop around I guess.

biggest PITA ive ever done to a car....getting the old ones off is 90% of the battle...after that your home free. they go in from the bottom up and as far as i know the pacesetter cardboardf gaskets are ur only option, but hey, if the metal ones fit use them

Even though people may recommend putting heavier copper gaskets, use the paper ones. The exhaust shop advised me to stay with the paper ones and I did, and have not had any leaks.

Ok well for an update I got the car into my garage today, 7ft X 18ft(will be fun!)

But the car is in there but by the time i got everything set up and ready it was midnight so im calling it quits for tonight. But I started unbolting the heat sheilds and some of the nut heads were rounding off from the rust and corrosion over the years(1996 car) but im making a bit of headway on them. Tomorrow I will battle them more. It worries me that I can't even see the header bolts... is there any easy way to do it? is my best bet putting the car up on stands and taking the front wheels off and trying from under the car?

Well I'll have to see. I have a small compressor here at the house and an air ratchet so that should help in those places I can get it in but turning a normal ratchet would be a pain in the ***.

With my kit I got for $220CDN the headers, y-pipe, metal gaskets, paper gaskets, bolts for headers and for bolting up to the y-pipe... so I should have everything I need.

Is there any good walkthrews that have pictures? Will I have to remove stearing linkage?

                  thanks guys -Bossv6

It's not too bad, took me about 6 hours. For all of you who said its a PITA, try doing headers on an LT1, then you'll see what a PITA really is.

My dad, his friend, and myself did long tube SLP headers with 3.5" y-pipe THAT was tough, my dads friend got to bolt up the headers though! lucky me! i dident have the tough job. but those things are about 3 feet long and go right back under the seats.

                          theres a PITA

Update: i put the car outside in the driveway for more room, go it up on 4 stands so i have about a foot and a half under the car to work. im going under there tomorrow to cut the y-pipe off the cat, and see if i can get the rest of the stock stuff out of the car.

There's a link in the mod review section of this website. It's for putting on RKSport headers, but it's basically the same thing. Good luck. It took me a while...
