  • Headers or Manifolds

I have a 2002 firebird 3.8. I want to put in a new cam maybe mess with new heads as well. Thinking on going with headers but alot of people tell me the stock manifolds are really good on my car. What should I do?

    Thanks

If you go for heads and cam I'd say get headers because that little bit will make a big difference with a cam.

do the headers last. if you like the performance from the cam you can then consider if you want the extra cost and trouble of replacing your stock tubular manifolds with aftermarket headers. your car will be fast with the tubular manifolds. just figure how far you want to go. you don't have to do everything all at once.

my vote is stick with the tubular manifolds. i think of them as 'cast headers.'

besides...when you hook those tubulars up to a full 3" exhaust system they will breath even better than stock.

i got my headers done and loved gains. then about a few months later i got my heads port and polished, a new cam, 3 angle valve job, fuel injectors and alot more done at once. it's alot of money but well worth it!

I think you should do the headers first. You will optimize the cam more if you have headers

I agree with greyman, I've seen these manifolds on a pulled 3.8 and they really are exceptional for stock. I would have used them myself, but there is a clearance issue with the a/c hardware on a 99. I could have gottem them used for alot less than headers.
