      Knowledge,
The point is, you know what I mean in some instances too. It's all in how you state your facts. See, everyone messes up in a post every now and then. yet you criticize instead of trying to help in a sensefull manner. I'm not trying to make enemies on the board. This is a place I enjoy coming to learn about other people's experiences and perhaps shed a little bit of my light to help someone when they need help. My info might not be correct all the time, that's why it's your job to come behind me and say what's right. I don't need to be slammed down for everything i say. There is a nicer way to say say something without getting people fired up. There's alot to learn about cars as they change every year. Yes, I'm wrong for some things I say. We all are. People experience different things. Your perceptions are all based on your experiences. I've seen things differently, but may now be aware that circumstances do differ between profound thought. Sorry for not opening my mind and eyes enough for you all to shed light upon me.

I think it's because they do sound different. Why is it that all of these people with the same engines and with the same muffler types have exhaust notes that are different? Example. I have a 3.8L connected to a Flowmaster 80 and two 3" chrome tips (they are about 15" long, or so)and they have 1/4" thick walls (unlike the tips you see on trucks). My friend has a 3.8L with a Flowmaster 80 muffler... tips are almost the same, except that they are thin (very much like the ones you see on trucks). Ok, let's say you tap my tips with a wooden handle (I'm thinking of the one on the brush I use to clean my car). My tips would go "dong" like a bell... it's actually kind of funny to do that. Do the same thing to my friends tips... definitely not a "resonant" (band nerd term, hehe), basically just get a click. Now, is this not going to affect the sound when the engine is running? I think it will... my car definitely sounds different than his (I'll admit that mine being a 2000 and his being a 99 has a little to do with it). Alright, I agree that this test is skewed because of the change to the manifolds... however, I've listened to many of the different clips, and heard different cars in person. They do not sound identical, similar, but not identical. I'll admit that I haven't heard a car with one pair of tips before and after the tips are changed (which would be ideal)... so if anyone has, step forward and end this discussion. I think I have physics on my side at the moment, so it would be nice to hear some observations that agree or to the contrary.

Your right, changing exhaust tips do make a difference in sound. I had 4" (around) duals coming out the back of my car. Well, just a little over a month ago I had quads placed on my car. On each side, where the one pipe use to be, there is now two 2 1/2" (around) pipes coming out. The pipes do have a Y on each, that is how the quads are made. With the 4" duals on the car, it sounded really loud, kinda like what trucks sound like with duals. With the quads, it gives more of a sports car/GT racing car sound(not saying it sounds like GT race cars). I myself like the sound of the quads better than the duals. Also, it's not just myself that thinks the car sounds different. Everyone that heard my car with the duals and now has heard my car with the quads says it sounds better and way different.
