hey guys, i'm plaining on ordering this hood from SLP in the near future. my question to you is what intake to put with it. SLP says that with my stock air box, it will add 10 HP. what i want to know is, what intake would be the best. the wisper lid and the SLP CAI or what? please advice. by the way, this is all going on a 2002 camaro.

SLP is correct in saying that your stock airbox will work well. The opening in the Ultra Z hood opens directly to the bottom of the air box if I'm not mistaken. That is right where you want the air to go.
You should get a whisper lid to accompany this as it should enhance the effect. Maybe also do the raised airbox mod to gain a larger opening under the airbox.

If you are wanting the "ram" air effect, then no to the CAI. The opening for the CAI could prevent any pressure from building up from the hood opening to the filter.
If you are wanting lots of cold air, then both would work, but would probably be overkill. You would be feeding the filter from the top of the car and the bottom of the car at the same time.
Any pressurization effect would be limited to whichever one has the least pressure. So if the ram air hood has more pressure, it will equalize to the cai pressure, because then the cai would become just another outlet for the air from the hood.\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

so from what i understand, i should just go with the whisper lid? now where do i order one from? also, the raised box is just done with spacers between the box and the frame right? please advice.

There are several places with the whisper lid. SLP, Thunderracing, tbyrne, I would also check with our friends at LMPerformance.
Correct about the raised airbox. I haven't seen the Ultra-Z hood in person yet. I would suggest checking the clearance on the lid, after you get it. Since the whisper is probably a little higher anyway, and the washer mod will raise it even more.
Check that your radiator mount is still secure. Some folks say they raise the front and leave the back alone. I would try 2-3 washers on the front, and 1-2 on the back (actually more like the middle, relative to the radiator top mount...)\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

The only thing that I would say is to not have cold air induction. Between the two, one of them would have a higher air pressure comming in. WHich ever one that was ( i would assume the hood at higher speeds ) would be equalized by the opening on the other. The idea behind ram air is to create a very high pressure area in the airbox and with the two different pressures being equalized you will lose a little of the high pressure.
Trust me, it makes sense in my mind, its just hard to explain...

If you want to save money, don't buy the whisper lid, you can do what the lid does for free. Take if off and cut/pull the fins off the the factory lid, sand it down and POOF!!!! You have a whisper lid.Mike
www.my99firebird.gq.nu
