  • Handicapped Idle (MAF SCREEN REMOVED)

Ok heres the deal: I took out the MAF screen and I did the IAT mod from radioshack. I drove the car a week or so with no problems. I finally decided that I better reset the computer, so I did. Now when I start the car it idles at 1500-2000 RPMS for a second or two, then it drops to 1000! It used to be 1000 always. After it drops, and I rev the engine and let off, it sticks at 2000 RPMS for a second or two and drops just like when it starts. It sucks. Any Ideas? Could my timing be messed up or what causes this? Thanks in advance! My car is Handicapped!!!

your car is getting so much air coming in it is trying to even it out by giving more fuel. Take off the rs mod and reset the computer again and see what happens

So whats going to happen when I do a CAI? Or is the MAF just tricked in to thinking I have more air coming in?

UPDATE: I was advised to take the mods off, reset and then drive at least 75 miles. I am in the process of doing this. Car still runs crappy though.

No, you caused it by "resetting" the PCM. A power loss causes the PCM to reset to the base factory settings. The engine never runs with the factory settings. Now it has to recalculate everything. It was doing fine before you "reset" it.

I have said this over and over on this board, including in another post today. You never want to disconnect power to the PCM, unless you have to - and this was not a reason to.

It won't take but 4-5 starts and it shouldn't idle high anymore. If it continues to do it, then something isn't right. The IAT mod is pointless...It's good for summer racing etc...now isn't a time to do it. You'll lose performance

Well I'm glad someone else said it too. This mod only works at WOT in the summer. Other than that it does nothing, and degrades performance the colder it is.
