  • cai now car pops?

I installed my k7n fipk. Everythings perfect, followed all directions disconnected battery etc. Every now an then when I stomp on it the car will pop. The car is over due for a tuneup so im assuming the new found airflow is too much for the old plugs and wires. Any other suggestions?

If its back fireing you might be running too rich.

well Im changing the plugs and wires so ill see how that goes. How can I be running too rich I havent tuned the car. It only has exhaust and a filter, It has new o2 sensors. Mabye the comp just has to get used to the filter a little more. It gets better as the car warms up.

More air coming in will change the MAF sensor readings. The computer uses the MAF sensor to tune the car. The computer should get used to it.

My car pops too. You have the 3.4l with a 5spd. Check your fuses I bet the one to the AIR pump is blown. or maybe you knocked off the connector to the pump while installing the CAI, the pump is roughly below it. The AIR pump on our cars pump... well... air into the cat, and I think the exhaust manifold. I'm pretty sure without it the exhaust will be a little rich. When that rich mixture hits the catlytic converter it will detonate and sound like a pop. I bet it pops a lot when you're coasting and don't have the gas and clutch pedals depressed. Anyway, i could be wrong, but I'm thinking that's why my car pops.

The car does have a cat. the entire exhaust system is new except for the headers. The car doesnt pop while cruising. When I let go of the gas it just rumbles from the pipes. When I rev the engine high the exhaust will pop a little when the rpms come back down but I figured that it was because the car is a v6. I forgot to mention that the car did pop a little before I installed the filter but not as loud. Its def coming from the eng compartment. This only happens up a hill when I floor it.

I just checked my fuses in the check engine compartment. The big fuse for the air pump is there but the little 20 amp one is missing. Am I suppose to have a 20 amp fuse in that location?

Ok I put a new fuse in because it was missing for the air pump. I checked everything made sure evrything was tight. I looked at the air pump hose and everything was tight and connected. Everything checks out to be perfect. I went for a drive and nothing really changed. I am going to get a tune up so hopefully that will clear everything up. Thanks for everyones help.
