Yes my car idles perfectly whether its in or out, only with it out I make about 5more hp and 10more ftlbs torque (eat that jet chip) all across the band - So much for the butt dyno, it certainly doesnt tell me anything!

hey card, whats up and nice #'s. i gottat get mine dynoed. let me aks you,did they do any a/f ratios and stuff like a dyno tune as well. maybe they could've squeezed a few more ponies. i think when you get a 3in. i pipe your torque will go up as well as up higher in the powerband, which will yield you more horsepower.

I'd be interested in having someone make an Autotap run on the dyno with & without the screen. I'm not trying to discredit any dyno's or their numbers, but I'd like to see what the car's doing beyond what the dyno is saying.

BTW, the 3.4L doesn't have a MAF, so therefore there's no MAF screen.

I agree with you completely, and had I had autotap, I wouldve logged my runs for information - But being Im a poor soul and could barely afford the dyno itself, thats all the information I can give you for now...

Also, they did offer A/F monitoring, but that costs extra - like $25 extra... and I wasnt willing to pay since I wanted a baseline - not a dynotune.

Unless it's wide-band O2 monitoring, I wouldn't bother. I'm working on getting a laptop just to run Autotap in my car, so hopefully I'll have it in time for whenever I dyno my car later this year.

I have had my maf screen out forever, it does not run bad, when have you ever seen a race car run like a caddy ? who freaking cares if the car is rough at idle. what do you think it will be like with a cam or other performance parts? Geez some people want the best of both worlds. Not jumping on you. Some people have done other tests with the screen out and said they lost power, every car is different.

The vette does not have it tho

the purpose of the screen is to SLOW down the air fluid. It basically STOPS the natural venturi effect so that your maf sensor can get a better reading. It has nothing to do with engine performance, simply how the maf sensor detects reading and that intune affects your idle.

Want a smooth idle? Then keep the band aid in the car that they had to make so that the maf sensor works right.

Simply put our cars were designed to run on the worst 85 octane gas going uphill in 120degF heat towing maximum payload with a full set of people in it and NOT KNOCK.

Leaning out the mixture slightly and running good gas and superior coolant on a well tuned car doesn't seem to HARM it. And for me it helped it.

PS - my idle is smooth as silk with the MAF in or out... No Difference whatsoever.

Cardinal, I see we both have the same year car. I've noticed my MAF screen have some sort of metal ring around it. I removed it, but the screen won't budge. What did you do to take your MAF screen off??

Did you do your dyno pulls in 3rd or 4th gear? I know we have problems with hitting the speed limiter in 4th. I am going to the dyno this weekend and I am thinking of going with 3rd.

Dude, I never said I wanted the best of both worlds(be honest I would love the car to run like a race car). I was just asking him how his car was running. I know what other performanace parts do to the car, I've been a Camaro freak for years. I'm no master mechanic but I do know a fair amount about cars mainly Camaros. Also, yes I have seen a race car run, I live near the Bristol speedway so I get up close to them. I'm not tring to be smart butt. Just kills me when I see people jump all over someone when they ask a simple question. Calm down a liitle it was just a question. ;)

:rolleyes: ohh here we go. For one, the question I ask was not ridiculous. If you do a search on the MAF. You will find that everytime someone asked about taking it off, everyone would say to leave it on there because it would make your car run bad(maybe one or two people thought otherwise). So up until a few days ago, when Card. took his MAF screen off and had his car placed on a dyno, almost everyone would say it was bad to take it off. Then all of a sudden. It was like, ok, it's good to take it off. So, NO. The question I asked was not ridiculous in anyway. It was a straight out simple question wanting to know how the car was running. And NO. I'm NOT use to getting jumped on for asking dumb question because I hardly ever ask dumb questions(I'm not saying I don't ask dumb question, everyone asks dumb questions every now and then, only human). Hell, I've seen a lot of simple questions on here from several people(not giving names), and do you think I jumb on them. NO. It's good to ask questions. That's the only way you can really learn about something and heck, the person asking the question may know the anwser, but they are just wondering what others think about it(ever thought of that). When I said I get mad when people jump on other people just for asking question, it was not me I was really talking about, I've seen it on here, and many other message boards. I guess it will never change since there will always be those that think if you don't know what they know or ask a simple question just to see what others think, then your some dumb ***. I usually ignored stuff like this, but I guess it's just the wrong day for me to be reading the post. Also, if I truely want to find something out I'll go to my Hanynes Repair Manuals, if I can not find the anwser there, then I'll go to my friend that owns a Performance Shop and I have several friends that work on cars so, I have my resources. I do like asking and repling to questions on message boards, for the pure simple reason to see how others around the US and anywhere else thinks, feels, and comments on the question and replies that are placed on the message boards, not only from me, but from others. I used a pair of swiss army knife sissors to carefully pull on the screen at the bottom through the hole.

Keep in mind the screen comes out SO MUCH EASIER if your car is *really* warmed up to the point the throttle body is in its natural "cooking" state. The TB will expand by 1-2mm and the screen practically falls out. If you try to remove it cold, youll probably mess up the screen...

Mine was done in 3rd gear, Automatic 1:1, the dyno op told be doing it in any other gear would give false results... I just said "ok" and let him do his thing :D .

He popped it into 3rd so it wouldnt upshift and floored it from 72mph to 118mph in 3rd - it almost slid right off the dyno it hit so hard when he floored it in 3rd lmao... They had to go get "The big straps" to keep it locked down for the next run so I got accurate results :D .
