i know that our car needs backend pressure, and that by gutting my cat, i may lose some performance. however... i am willing to lose a tenth or two if it means that much more of a difference in sound (loudness/mean) by gutting my cat... is it worth it? anyone??? based on my exhaust setup, let me know... THANKS!!!
neil O.
I've had both, gutted and catco high flow cat.
Both were 2.5 inch diameter.
The gutted was louder
The high flow cat made more power.
It is not worth the increased emmisions and lose of power in my opinion.
But if you want a louder and deeper tone then gutted is for you

thanks 12secondv6... any other opinions? would it be better to gut my cat, or just remove the cat 'n replace it w/ a straight pipe? wouldn't a hollow cat just slow down the exhaust on its way out as it swirls around in a hollow chamber? thanks for any input!

Neither, in my opinion. I'd also opt for the Catco.
If you gut or replace your cat with a strait pipe, you'll get an SES light. You might even get it with a high flow cat. You'll have to get an O2 sim if so and on my car even that doesn't work so I'll be building my own soon, have the parts all just sitting in the floor. Have to get the O2 sensor reinstalled some time too.
As for power increase, I got quite a bit out of a strait pipe instead of a cat, 3" S pipe and the FTRA. It was like .2 sec in the quarter and 1 mph faster. My slowest time last time out at the track was better than my previous fastest. See the timeslips section of my webpage for more details.
