  • DE-SCREENING?

Is it reccomended that i remove the screen in the maf, i know it made a diffrence on my dads LS1 but the v6 has a intake thats curved off to the side a bit... is it worth taking it out to free up some flow? or no?

    thanks guys

if you test it just don't damage it. it will get all bent up if you even look at it funny. very fragile.

I didnt notice any gain whatsoever by taking it out. Some guys have even said they have gotten a rougher idle because they took it out so i would suggest against it.

I've heard that taking it out in an A4 is bad. However, with my M5 I took it out and the only noticeable difference was a much louder, gurgly intake. And that itself was worth it, in my opinion. That screen is supposed to straighten airflow I believe, but I'm not sure how much it helps.

              Why only on an M5?

I have no idea...I guess it has something to do with the way the computer controls engine rpm.

It caused my A4 to have a surging problem. Don't do it, it is worthless. I gained about .5rwhp with it off and lost 1rwtq.

It does NOTHING. A whisper lid+FRA will flow way more than a stock 3800 will ever be able to take in. LEAVE IT ALONE.

Thanks guys, Im going to think about it. Im really not sure. Like I said my dads LS1 did make a diffrence with it out. But the TB size on an LS1 and a 3.8L are about the same size... but the LS1 is pulling a hell of alot more air threw it. So perhapps it had a gain that way... I dont know. I already have made a custom CAI intake with some flexible heat vent tubing going from the TB to the stock airbox, elminating all the air silencing crap that was in there. It makes a louder growl now with that silencing stuff out. But if removing the screen makes it sound better... all the better. But there is such a mixed answer here I really dont know what to do. I guess wait a week and then tally the yes/no answers hehe!

if i remember correctly it the consensus on this was yes on a straight tb and no on an angled tb. so in your case, no.
