For the possible minor increase performance...if any at all...the risk in damaging your $$$$ MAF is not worth it. I thought i had read somewhere that the screen is more of a air straightener anyway. By removing the screen, you cause the air stream past the MAF wire to swirl (vortex)which can cause idle fluctuations. It may even cause a lean or rich condition depending on how the MAF reads the air. To many variables to say one or the other, but in a lean condition, rough idle could be caused by missing.

In the end, removing the screeen would be a bad idea in my opinion.

i'ts there to give the maf a steady reading. if it's not there it will hurt performance.

The only time it hurts performance is on decel and part throttle. It is a restriction to airflow, plain and simple. I took mine out ages ago, and I adjusted the airflow tables accordingly and my car runs fine.

Never adjusted the airflow tables, but I took mine out when I first got this thing. I have no complaints. I need a tuner dammit!

For 98+ its ok but the 93-97 has the curved intake which needs the air to be "straightened". I have mine off, its alil louder, no problems.
