i ordered a set of pacesetter headers the other day for my 3.4L, which don't come w/ bolts. i searched and found people buying ls1 bolts for them. i went to the dealer today to order them and he said they weren't anything special and i should get a set of locking header bolts.
why can't i just use the stock bolts that are on there now? i don't see why they wouldn't fit, unless they are too short or something. i don't want to go through all the trouble of getting new bolts if i don't need them.

well the tell you the truth they are old rusted and need to replaced. When i did my headers i broke three bolts pullying the out. same thing happen to me when i call them about ls1 bolts. They actualy laughed at me..... Well i just got the specs of the bolts and went and bought some.

i think i read somewhere that they were a tad too big to fit inside the header holes.
but rule of thumb is, never re-use header bolts.
do it once do i right. cmon, take the plunge get the ls1 header bolts, you wont thank me later, but youll never have to worry about the bolt coming loose.
I will take on all comers...or come on all takers!!! Whichever you prefer.
when i was getting stuff to rebuild my engine I checked with my dealer about getting some LS1 bolts and they told me they don't make them any more. I ended up picking up some nice Stage 8 locking LS1 bolts from Summit.

They do make them, but they have a new part number.

The LS1 bolts are M8x1.25x32mm. The one thing I really like about the LS1 bolts is the fact that you can use a 10mm socket on them which really helps considering the the bolts are so close to the primary tubes on the headers. I used to use a bolt that used a 12mm socket and it was a pain in the *** to install the bolts...had to wrench them in all the way. With the LS1 bolts(or any others that use a 10mm head) you can use a ratchet all the way.
Just my .02.

i got my headers today! :D the coating looks real good. i picked up a set of M8-1.25x30mm bolts... these should work right? i tried to get 32mm length, but none of the auto parts or hardware stores carried the odd length. hopefully i'm going to install them this weekend if my friends are able to help. we're going to bring the camera to get videos of open headers and headers/carsound cat/rumbler all hooked up. i'm a little interested in hearing what it sounds like.

i sure wish i had known that about a year ago...
my advice to everyone... make sure you get these 10mm bolts... its a total PITA to wrench the bolts tight... you can only make about an 1/8 of a turn and then you have to take the wrench off and put it back on
