Noob needs help!

Hi, I am new to this board, so first off I would just like to say "hey". Anyways, I am thinking about putting a catback on my car to replace the single tip stock exhaust. I don't want anything overly obnoxious as the cops in my town are real gay about that kinda stuff, but I want something that sounds good without too much "drone". I understand this is hard to accomplish in our cars but what would have the least? I am thinking maybe hooker or magnaflow, but I don't really want to put a ton of money into if as I will probably sell the car in the summer for a Trans am. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hooker and magnaflow are both good, look at a simple z-28 take off also, looks good and HAS to flow a bit better than stock.

Hooker, Edelbrock, V8 takeoff, or Borla would be my suggestions...

Borla is a lot more expensive than the others, but it also has an adjustable plate so you can control how loud it is. It's also probably the best quality catback for our cars.

i just have a muffler from a v8 and it sounds and looks a lot better. the flow isnt that great but i plan on getting an electric cutout soon anyway. to me this is the best way to go. you have the muffler for the better looks and isnt too much louder but adds a little grunt to your sound. The electric cutout allows you to open your exhaust whenever you feel like it to add power and then close it when the overly loud sound gets annoying to you or you want to listen to the radio or someone else in the car.

i would highly recommend the hooker cat-back. i had one on my car awhile back and i think it is one of the best sounding exhausts out there, plus it flows really well. i got mine from www.thunderracing.com . give them a call, their customer service can't be beat.

Loudmouth doesn't drone unless you are throttle happy. It's loud outside though so cops would prolly pull you over :-/

yup..mine is like that all the time..hollow cat and 3" open/hollow borla cat back..anyways..the borla delivered a really nice sound that wast too loud before i hollowed the cat..you can get just the rear section for like $500 i think

If u get a high flow cat it will be louder than just a new catback.

I think I am going to order the hooker. I found it at www.jegs.com for $294.95 shipped. Is there anyplace better? Also, obviousy I am ordering the 3" V8, but I want the 93-95 single cat. LT1 catback right? This shouldnt be too hard to fit to my car I assume.... Also, I am thinking about getting a high flow cat, do I need it or should I "modify" my current one. Will this system sound ok without headers? Thanks a lot.

Before you do anything (illegal) to your cat, just get a hi-flo cat instead...to me its worth it, im looking into one, you will still pass emissions (if you have emissions tests) and it will sound nearly exactly like a hollowed out cat.

And it should sound just fine without headers! A new whisper lid for mine actually helped exhaust sound more than i thought it would, and i dont have headers. Im glad that you arent getting a flowmaster, i hate mine soooo much...(rasp anyone?) BTW, i think the Rumbler is a little less expensive, but much much louder. go to TSP's site to check it out, im either lookin into that or an electronic cut-out... ;)
