• Stock I pipe to ?? on 3.4

O.K. this is it. I have my credit card in one hand, the phone in the other, & you dont want to know what I'm typeing with I have part #s for Ravin Z55, Flowmaster 80, Dynomax Super Turbo, Flowtech Terminator, Hooker, Edelbrock & Pacesetter. Its a 3.4 Camaro and at this point I am only adding a single in, duel out to the factory 2.5 I pipe. No mandrel bent pipes, no hi flow cat, just hooking it up to stock. I am looking for a deeper sound for the lower range, not so much power. I've been reading all I can on this great message board for a few days & am just confusing myself. Please Help. Thank You

I really like my Ravin muffler, I can send you a couple sound clips by email if you want. Mine is a 3.1 which is basically the same as the 3.4 aside from displacement.

When you say get used to it, do you mean the burn in time or it just dosnt sound right. Do you have it hooked to your stock I pipe? Thanks for repling. Rick

          stock I-pipe on a 3.4 is a 2.25". not 2.5.

Its a 2.25" ? I didnt know this. Thanks. Will I need a coupler to do a home install, or does the I pipe slide right into the 2.5". Muffler dude told me it was a 2.5". aint that the sh**s. This helps, thanks again.

After hearing everyone on this board argue about the diameter of the I-pipe, I decided to measure mine one night while changing my oil. I can speak for MY car and MY car only. The stock intermediate pipe on my 95 3.4 is 2.5". I suggest you crawl under yours and measure just to be safe.

BTW, I've got a Walker muffler under my Camaro and I like the sound. It's fairly quiet compared to a Flow but it's more noticeable than stock. Someday I'll do a catback, probably something in stainless steel. Good luck.

Harbin, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I took a ruler to mine on suday after the nascar race and its 2.5" o.d. Thats why I wasnt sure about the 2.25". Anyways I talked to a guy my company does business with (private repair shop) today and he said bring it in. He has a new 80 series flowmaster sitting around he can hook up with w/ duel pipes out the back for about $110. Thanks for the input. Rick

You guys must have special cars with bigger stock pipes.

Dog, I'm not a math wizz, not by a long shot. I'm thinking if its a 2.5" o.d., then it would be an inside 2.25".?

where are you gusy measuring it?

The Y-pipe comes down to 2.5in. the CAt is 2.5 in. and then it goes to a 2.25 in. S-pipe to a 2.25 in. I-pipe.

maybe they upgraded to 2.5 as an option or something.

As for best soudning, I like my stock lt1 catback, 2.75 in. I-pipe, dual outlet muffler, rumbles at idle, audible, much louder then stock, but not obnoxiously loud.

I forgot what setup Predator Bird had on his car but it sounded nice as hell.

and for the record a $15 Thrush muffler from discount auto sounds like *** , but does break records

By the way I got my catback for free form a local member on www.camaroz28.com. Ask aroudn peopel give them away or selel them for liek $20. Cost me $120 for them to install the catback, and my 2.5in. highflow cat, cutout, and custom bend a 2.5 in. S-pipe.

Catco cat cost me $40, cutout was $30.

I measured just behind the cat. I measured where the I-pipe didn't change diameter anymore. It seemed to be bent here and there on the Y-pipe.
