  • Catco's legal in Cali?

I was lookin at getting a catco high flow, but Ive heard some ppl dont pass emisions - I guess do to the flow rate. My car passed perfectly about a month or so ago so Im not really worried about it but I dont wanna have to swap back when I cant pass - we do a visual inspection here as well. Anyone know of a place I can find out if its legal. I dislike going to the muffler place here to ask. They are jerks and I told them to die when they said 400 for install for my heades and they remember me =)

Replacing stock cats in cali is illegal no matter what. You can't replace it if you want it to remain legal.

Replacing stock cats in Cali is not illegal. If it's broken or over certain amount of miles(70 or 80k, i think), you can replace it. As for Hi-Flows, I do believe it's illegal. If a shop visually inspects it b4 the smog and sees it, they'll refuse to do it. But other places don't care.

Kewl, thx for refreshing my bad memory.

I actually replaced my Cat at the beginning of December, a few months back. It was broken, rattling like a mo fo for several months b4 it finally broke down to the pt of replacement. I had to do all this research to see if it's still waranteed(sp?) and all. The muffler shop put in a 3" GM universal cat. I wanted a Catco 6007. But didn't have time to order and I didn't want to deal with the SES and smog probs and 02 simms.

I paid 300 for the cat and install. YES it is $$$ compared to a catco + install. I know it was not worth it right when they told me, but I had to do it because I needed to pick up my friends' from the airport, so I said screw it!!! It was clogged so bad I couldn't accelerate and when I go up a slight incline on a freeway, my car went down to 35mph!!!!!!!!
