by doing the intake mod found in the mod section here, and grinding off the extra plastic on the intake lid... would this show the same gains as buying the whisper lid?

also, i saw somewhere that putting 2 90* fittings from the muffler input, to the muffler output is a good mod...
what would this be equal to? any performance gains? or just a deeper exhaust sound?

Well I'm not really sure what you're talking about but just thinking common sense wouldn't connecting the the muffler in to out make a closed loop out of it? nothing in/out and um... I'm prolly thinking wierdly tho because that would make 0 sense

As far as the free ram air mod, it's definatley worth it since its free. But as far as gains go, the whisper lid is definatley worth the money. \

I've seen the exhaust mod you're talking about and I've never been able to figure out how that would help. I don't see any power gains but it might change the sound a bit.

      Your best bet is:

      K&N filter
      Whisperlid
      Cold air induction kit
      Cat-back exhaust

That's a pretty good starting point and gets the ball rolling for future mods.

ok, for all you guys that think the whisper lid is worth the money... its not that much different than the homemade one. all you need is to cut out the fins in the lid, and replace the big baffle with a 3" pvc cupling. it gets very similar gains to the whisper. as for the free ram air mod, i'm not a huge fan because it causes you to suck in hot air from off the radiator. i have been running with the modified lid and baffle for a long time now and have noticed a change in throttle response and sound.

could u direct me to the 3" pvc mod, how to do it?

and, are there ribs below the filter i need to sand off, or just on the lid?
              thx

hmm, i had the homemade setup, and the whisper lid was definitely worth the money just by cleaning up the ghetto stuff...but it also sounds a little better and a little deeper exhaust note, for the money i think its well worth it!

good one... but, it was already explained what i was talking about...

you dont connect the pipes, you drill a hole in the in pipe, and use a small fitting(s) to connect that to a hole in the out pipe...

so, it basically lets some un muffled exhaust (if that makes sense) out of the exhaust...

um... unless you have dual exhaust thet isnt even possible. our exhaust pipe goes in one side of the muffler and out the other (as memory serves) so that cant even be done... sorry. as for the 3" pvc cupling its pretty straight forward. if you look at your intake you see the airbox lid then a rubber connector then an air baffle, and then another rubber connector the connects to the egines intake. Basically you unhook the air baffle from the rubber connectors on either side of it and pull the whold damn thing out. Then you simply replace it with a 3" pvc cupling (not 3"pipe a 3" cupling) from like home depot. Basically you will need the cupling and 2 hose clamps to hold it in place in the rubber connectors on your car.

so, i can just remove the whole baffle? and, how hard is it to reinstall the sensors into the pvc coupling?

and, is there a picture guide for this install?

and, finally... will i use more than 1 pvc coupling? and, how does it curve down, because i know the output of the airbox is higher than the input on the engine or tb or w/e it is

hmm, what year car do you have, this might only work on 99+ that have the straight TB.
