Definetly get the coated headers. You'll only be sorry later on if you get the painted ones.
The first time I did it, the install was a PITA. Getting to some of the bolts is pretty difficult, and getting the old headers out and the news ones in was tricky. The 2nd time I did it on a friend's car was much easier, though.
If you've never done much work on a car, it'd probably be pretty hard.
I wouldn't really install the headers with a stock exhaust. Maybe get the headers and wait to save up for a catback as well.
the reason i dont want to wait to install them is cause i may not end up getting the exhaust for a while, it just depends on my money situation, but usually i have a couple hundred left over after bills at certain times of the year.......
are there any other options other than getting the coated headers? does that header wrap stuff work or anything else that you might know of that will work good?
yea i had same money problems. i got uncoated headers and a high flow cat last years christmas, then since its snows here and with the salt , my mechanic said he wouldnt even put those headers on for me till i got them coated. so i went to local powdercoating shop and had them ceramic coated and silver polished for $100.. let me tell you well worth it, looked 100x better, still looks 100x better on the car after a couple months than what ive seen from someone who had factory pacesetter coated headers, his were chipping after a couple weeks, but yea money is hard.. i had them sitting in my basement for about 7 months till i could get the i-pipe and money to have them installed, and i found a shop, instead of my mechanic, to do it and he installed the headers, y-pipe, cat, o2 bung, and hooked up the 2.75" i-pipe i bought to my flowmaster that i had alreayd had in there. But i like it, no regrets. cept for i put in fel-pro gaskets :( and i got exahust leaks like crazy.. so gotta order some factory pacesetter ones

you wont see as much gain from headers with stock exhaust as you will see with catback exhaust and stock manifolds. its simple you might open up airflow right of of the engine but you still have a choker exhaust to stop any flow.

personally, save up the extra cash and get coated headers, it is worth the wait...and might as well just wait to do the exhaust and headers as once. if you insist on doing one before the other, i would do exhaust before headers. 99camaropkg summed up why pretty well...

coated look a bit more pretty, but for the money i just dont think theyre worth it. theres a small difference, but i assure you its negligable. paint them right and the uncoated ones look pretty too.
theres alot more benefits to coated headers than just looking 'pretty'
