Alright guys i know that alot of you people out there are running a gutted cat with no sim installed. now the problem i am having is that my ignition coils are going bad but not going bad. let me explain what happens. about a year ago my ignition coils went bad so i replaced them. about a month later they went bad again. this time i got them tested and only one went bad. about a month after that they went bad again. so this time i bought three new ones again, but kept the old ones and got those tested. only one went bad then too. now the thing i am getting at is now when i drive my car i have to swap coils with three that i have in my trunk. when those go bad i swap them back out and it runs fine again. i was wondering if there was some way to find out what is causing the problem and how to fix it. ive tried getting my codes ran but it just throws the o2 code. any ideas?

Could be your Ignition Module if it isn't related to the 02 code

I wouldnt think a gutted cat has anything to do with this...

then what else could be the problem? could it be the wires? would they have anything to do with it?

Like I said before, maybe it's the ignition module ;) which is the plate that coils plug into.

i have an opinion that this has to do with moisture around the coils. if you look at your coils, the weatherstripping that is at the rear of the hood (by the glass) is directly above your middle coil. if the weatherstripping fails then water from rain/snow or even just being humid can ruin your coils or throw it off til it has time to dry out

go back to stock coils, stock wires and stock plugs.

I would have to second this. Coils don't go bad and then heal themselves. I think something is causing resistance in your electric system. But anytime you unplug and replug the connectors, it is fine. That tells me that you connectors are at the source of the problem. Maybe you are getting water somewhere. Does this happen to any particular cylinder or is it widespread?

its mainly the 6-3 coil and the 4-1 coil. the middle one seems fine. it is very humid here during the this time of year. wouldnt that throw a code though? so do you think that its the coils or the module? if it is humidity getting into the coils is there anything that i can do to get rid of that?

try some dielectric grease on the coil connection tabs. not the white goop either, but the crap used on plug wire ends.

I don't think its either the coils or the module. If the coils stops working, then you unplug it, and plug it back in and it works, thats not a hardware issue.
