I'm not really impressed of K&N intake kits looks a little overpriced for what you get.

Yea, they're beter than stock, but do not perform up to the par of aftermarket lids. We've seen as much as 8rwhp increase just by switch from K&N to a lid on the dyno, and I can only imagine it getting better on the road with more air coming in. One would think that an open filter right there would at least perform on the dyno, but they don't. Save your money.

To me, i think this would be better than the box... there's more area for air to come into the intake, decreasing air resistance to the intake.... increasing power... my thoughts would be that this is better than any lid in general...

Kind of what I thought...
Lid + Ram Air > K&N intake Kit
Edit: But how much air flow comes through the 2 "nostrils" (on a firebird) with the stock non ram air hood I would think a lot? Maybe the K&N intake kit is better for the Firebird then the Camaro?

Unless your "nostrils" are functional, it will hurt performance. Think about how much air there is up on top of that air box when the hood is closed...Now think about how hot that air will be, an where it comes from. I'm not expressing an opinion here, we've dyno tested these kits.

I wouldn’t doubt your tests the filter looks like it has a lot of dead spots anyways.

I have it and its awesome. It added 16 HP over the regular K&N filter with the standard airbox. Anyone saying it isn't good is probably just guessing because they've never used it. You'll definately feel and hear the difference.

I also have a flowmaster exhaust and ram air hood. I'm not sure what kind of difference it makes without a ram air hood, but it will gain some.

*yawn* Matt how do the twin filter Volant V8 intakes work on our cars? My functional nostrils and I want to try one if it will flow better then my lid.

The Volant tested identical to the K*N on back to back tests. And yes, we let the car have the same cool off period and such to be sure the runs would be comparable. A whisper lid is as good as it gets FOR NOW on our cars:)

Screw cooling down, hot lap each one about 20 times, thats how you make the runs comparable ;)
