Ok i want this car to sound mean as hell. I don't want to wake the dead but i'd like to interupt their sleep :D I'm thinking of doing headers, full 3" piping, electronic cutout, high flow catco cat, and a Z28 performance muffler. Ok, my dad's getting married to a girl who's dad owns an exhaust shop and i'm sure he'll give me a deal. So where should i get a cutout from and a highflow cat. About how much is a cutout. the rest i can find on my own. Thanks guys for the help. also does anybody have sound clips of their 3.8 with a cutout and some of the things i have in mine. The video of sound clip would be most appreciated.

Ok, here's the basics for exhaust to help you pick::
Headers -> Less rasp, a little more power, cleaner engine bay, usually a general overall improvement
Highflow Cat -> Louder exhaust overall, doesn't often change tone just more of the volume, may change the amount of rasp, can rattle when it gets old
Piping -> Generally the larger the piping the better up to 3" for sound quality, the 3" will move the powerband higher meaning a little less seat of the pants torque and more topend for sure.
Muffler -> Power wise most make no difference really, most are an improvement over stock but just changing the muffler won't give you much. You need to ask around and listen to the mufflers to hear the sound they'll make, but here are the basics:
Flowmasters -> v8 idle rumble, nice cruising tone, often raspy topend
Dynomax -> very quiet idle, little noise when cruising, generally smooth tone throughout but not muscle car sounding or v8 sounding
Borla -> raspy sounding usually and not too deep,
sound depends on the plate used
Hooker -> (my muffler) quieter idle but noticeable, smooth cruising tone, not raspy at all on topend, not too loud, but you know its not
a v8
Cutouts/Straightpipes -> very loud, nice rumble at idle, drones when cruising, screeches when flooring it and has a nasty loud tone to it on topend, but when cruising and low rpms, can be very intimidating
People will probably disagree with some of this, but this is only my opinion. If you want a nice tone and muscle sound, get the headers, highflow cat, 3" piping, and a flowmaster or something else with only a few internal chambers. If its raspy, put a dynomax bullet on the I-pipe to help. Here's the link to a website claiming to have the best v6 exhaust setup using flowmasters with very good soundclips and info:

Electronic cutout's are pretty expensive, like $185ish. All they are really is a normal cutout with a flange on the end and a motorized flap that bolts to the flange to open and close by switch. Here's a few websites for the exhaust parts:

There is a electronic plate that will fit over any 3" cutout that you can get for about $30-40. It's only $110 too.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website
