• whisper ram air or ftra?

The whisper is less known, but much cheaper... but ftra claims to outflow the others. I was just wondering if one is better than the other in flow or quality? Besides price, which is the better buy?

Get the whisper brand (WRA) from tbyrne. Why pay 25 or more dollars for the fasttoys brand when they're identical? Who cares if one is more popular than the other?

I don't think you'll see much of a difference between the two. I bought mine for $100 so my FTRA was a good deal!

Also, check with ebay and the for sale sections in various forums. You might come off with one for cheap like 99camaro99.

I just wanted to step in here and clear up some confusion..

The Whisper ram air kit is a blatent copy of the very first version of the Fast Toys ram air kit. We were a customer of their buying their lids for resale and they decided they would secretly buy a ram air kit from us and copy it and sell it. They never even told us! Besides the moral issue of doing that, they also copied portions of our instructions verbatim which easily could be a copy right lawsuit if we were so inclined.

Since then, there have been numerous improvements and updates to the FTRA to improve its performance, installation and durability. Our new version will easily outperform the original. Not only that, we provide the best support, very comprehensive instructions and sponsor the various fbody related enthusiast message boards.

Although you will pay a little more for the FTRA, you will get a superior product.

If you have any questions, please email us directly at sales@fasttoys.net

Unfortunately, that's the shady side of the business. It's gonna be like that with anything you buy..Imitations. The fasttoys brand is more popular, but performance wise, it's not any better. They say you get what you pay for. In this case, I disagree. Sorry.

Considering we designed the product that Whisper copied (an old version) and have made several revisions to improve the product since then, I would beg to differ. The new version is clearly superior.

Why buy a lid?

for less that $20 we can do the same thing as the after market. Granted it does take us about 2 hours work. The oval at the back of our lids is equal to a 3" circle.

GO to your local harware store and take the rubber pieces between our baffles and intake and lid. find some PVC joiners that the rubber pieces fit snuggly over. Get 4 4" hose clamps. Get a 3" sanding disk thing for an electric drill. And a can of black spray paint.

1.screw the joiners together and paint.
2.snap off the ribs in the stock lid. and sand smooth. bevel or round the edges around the oval.
3.Do the free ram air mod found on LS1.com
4.remove the screen in the neck of the intake.
5.put all the pieces back on with the PVC inplace of the baffles.

I went from 182 hp to 208 hp. My exhaust hasnt been so sucessful.

We're not talking about the lid. As far as you going from 182 to 208hp from intake and exhaust mods is sorry.

the stock lid doesn't sit as high, sorry...and that OVAL might go to 3", but the whisper i believe is more than 3", and is a circle, going into a CIRCULAR throttlebody.

and for what it's worth, i did a run with a whisper lid and ran 14.92.

stock lid best was 15.22.

doesn't the FTRA also have something the whisper ram air doesnt? that extra flap at the bottom? i have it on my ftra, but i dunno if the whisper odes.
