  • Proper way to remove the MAF screen?

What's the correct way to take out the MAF screen? I need to clean my throttle body and the instructions say to keep it away from the screen and sensors. Only way I see to do that is to take out the screen and I don't see any way to do that.

The screen is held in by a circular retaining clip. The clip is not quite a complete circle. At the ends of the clip are two tiny holes barely visible when the clip and screen are installed.

I got the tip of a Swiss Army knife in one of the holes and popped up the end of the clip and then removed the clip.

Next, you gently pry the screen out. Again, the Swiss Army knife may help in encouraging the screen out by prying gently at the endge of the screen.

It also helps if the engine is warm.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

      Warm engine is good

Use a pair of pins or bent paper clips or something similar to get out the spring clip. I used the pointy probes on my multimeter.

Don't try to pry the screen out from the front, it's too easy to mangle the thin mesh. Unscrew the 2 philips screws that hold the MAF sensor into the body, and pull it out. Then gently push the screen out from the inside, your fingers will reach easily.

A safety pin or sharp knife is what I usually use.
