    Ok, Heres the story

I had a loud, metallic rattle coming from my exhaust while the car was cold, and it shut up as soon as it would heat up.

Since this sounded really bad, I decided to have the problem fixed at my local chevy store.

Well, after they told me it'd cost me 200 bucks to swap an oxygen sensor (which they say caused the problem) I went did the job myself tonight.

My only problem is, this lound rattle is still there at start up, but now it only lasts about 10 seconds at start up, and seems to be louder.

Now that I know that the sensor was not the root of the problem, I assume that something else is wrong.

Now before I just take it into an exhaust shop to help troubleshoot the problem, any body got any ideas?

I think I have the same problem as you, but I'm ordering a full exhaust system soon, and I'm hoping that will take care of the problem. Right now I'm stock, but just changed my tranny when it started, so I'm not sure what the noise is. Let me know when you find out.

My flowmaster muffler used to sound like utter **** before the car warmed up, like someone shaking a spray paint can. Doesn't help you in any way but shrug lol.

heat sheilds on the convertor perhaps. could also be the double-walled pipe. could be the heatshield that sits on the i-pipe to 'protect' the fuel tank. you really need to start the car up and listen underneath to determine the rough location. or put the car up on ramps and while the exhaust is cold hammer on the pipes (with something soft -- rubber mallet) and see if you want make it rattle and find it that way.
