Well i went to a local exhoust shop in my town looking for some exhoust stuff i wanted to get done. Well anyway i asked about my cat and since i live in california and emmisions is pretty hard to get around it cost me 350 to put a new cat on wel he told me that if i go down to the local chevy delership they might put one on for free it might still be under warrenty he said that it is not a delership warenty it is a federal emission warenty since my cat cost so much or thing like that. so i went down to talk to them about it and they told me that it ia 7 year 70 thousand mile warenty but my car has 74 thousand on so i could not get it done for free. but im sure this might help alot of you guys out who might need new cat and live in california i wish i herd about this 400 mile ago. i hope this might help you guys out.

Ok i have a question, how do you know when you need a new cat? My car was running a 16.0 in the 1/4 and someone said a clogged cat could be why. Anyways thanks for the info i might just go out and get a new one.97\' A4 y87<br />SLP CAI, 80 series flowmaster

it could also be because you have a V6.
if it rattles
if you get a foul smell out of the muffler
if it turns charcoal red after driving6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

if you take a long stick/pipe and bang on the cat, chances are you might have just broken something. although that's not an altogether bad strategy, since a lot of places will stick to the law that you can't change the cat until ~70k or if it's broken.you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on
