i did search the search part of the site before posting this and didnt find a satisfactory answer, so here goes
i made a garage intake for my 97 rs and didnt make a place for the iat, so i unplugged it and went with it? will this damage anything, or mess up my computer?

so then my alternator going out tonight had nothing to do with this? i replaced it 2 months ago, and the battery now my car wont start with out a serious jump :(

Yes, not using the IAT is a bad idea. The IAT reads the intake air temp so that the computer knows to richen the fuel mixture when the incoming air is cold (aka when first starting it up) which will make the car idle smooth when its ice cold out or when doing a cold start. When mine was out of the intake, the car idled badly when cold and didnt drive too well, put it in and no more problems!
I doubt the alternator had anything to do with this and you do need to put that into your intake. You should be able to fabricate something pretty easily using a drill and your original intake. Shouldn't be too hard.

Just drill a hole in your duct and silicone the ait into place.
