There isnt much difference, metal just looks better when its polished. Well in theory I would think aluminum will dissapate more heat then PVC would. If you make a whole intake out of PVC it will look cheap too.Comment

Go to home depo and ask for a fernco. It's a rubber tube with metal bands at both ends. You attatch one side to the throttle body and the other to the lid. It works on LS1s I know for a fact cause I used to have one. I don't know if anyone has tried it on the V6 but it wouldn't hurt to go and take a look at the different types of ferncos they have and see if you can make it fit. dude I figured it out:
go to home depot or other hardware store and buy 4 inch dryer duct(5 feet or so)
get two 4" clamps
one cone filter
and something to attach the filter to the aluminum ducting
will tell of results tonight or tomorrow.

results of home depot intake:
