• New Flowmaster catback

Someone posted some information on the new Flowmaster catbacks design just for the 93 and up 3.4 & 3.8 V6 F- bodies. I thought I would pass on some more information.
Since the part number, 17356 for the 3.4 v6, was not on the Flowmaster web site, I had to call the tech. line to find a dealer. Summit sells #17356 for $256.95 + $5.00 extra shipping + $7.95 handling. JEGS quoted me $312.00. Flowmaster also gave me the number to a place in Florida called TwentyFirst Century Exhaust and they quoted me $220+$20.0 shipping. However, I lost their number and could not find a web site or their number or name in the Florida Yellow pages. So...I bought it from Summit.

Since I have access to a lift here at work, I did the installation. I did not have to cut or weld any of the pipes and everything fit great after adjustment. The instructions were clear, detailed and made for the F-body and not 50 other cars. The workmanship was also good with nice smooth bends. The kit came complete with aluminized pipes, polished, stainless tips and all the clamps. Athough the double u-bolt clamps in the kit were better than most single u-bolt clamps, I used some band clamps. They make the exhaust system easier to remove. Just in case you have to replace the fuel pump for example. ( Why dont they make an access plate in the floor over the gas tank so you dont have to drop the tank to change the stupid fuel pump..........sorry....had to vent).
Anyway.....I like it... no rattles, good sound. The new 5",80 series cross-flow muffler(part #52583),which also does not show up on the web site, sounds deeper than the 40 series I had on the car.

I believe I was the first to have it thank you
It was installed on May 26, 2001 by Hot Rod TV. Sounds pretty good i think..but i had the resonator taken out, and added a cut-out. Just wasnt loud enough for me =D

EDIT: The part is #17358..so your system might be different..

Do you think that any of you with the new 5" muffler could post some sound clips? I'm just about to put a performance muffler in and have already deciced on going with the Flowmaster 80 series. I was just wondering if the new muffler really does sound better than the old 3" one. Another quick question while we're on the topic...isn't 5" a little too big? Won't it create too little backpressure and actually decrease performance?

Thanks,

So, over all, I was looking around checking prices and such, and this system falls at the low end of the price range.

How does the quality of this system stack up. From what I read here, everyone is very happy with the sound, the install was easy. Is it all nicely made?

Camaro is gona need an exahust system in spring I think.... I do belive this is the one that will be going on

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. The 5" dimension refers to the thickness of the muffler and not the pipe diameter of the inlet or outlets.
Most 80 series for the F-bodies are 4" thick and the one that comes in this kit is 5" thick and has a 2 1/2" inlet and two 2 1/2" outlets.

Yep...it has mandrel bends. The tips, which are welded to the exhaust pipes, are polished stainless steel. Also, the hanger connections are welded in the correct position, the pipes and muffler are aluminized steel and the kit came with good clamps.

Do you have to buy the american thunder system to get that particular muffler? Is it possible to just buy the muffler? Also, I would be interested if any of you have soundclips of the new muffler. I've heard the old one...I'd just like to try and make a comparison so I can decide which one to get.

Thanks

According to this, it is avaliable on its own. Though I wasn't able to find that part number at Summitracing.com I'm sure if you call You would be able to get ahold of it
