are there any big differences in the two or would it be possible to swap a 98 intake with a bent neck for a 2000 with a straight neck?

The throttle cable is electric on the new one. You would need the 2000 pcm and harness to drive the electric motor for it, or figure out a way to hook your mechanical cable to it.
I've thought about trying this too.
A plus to putting a newer pcm in, is the availability of an hpp3...\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

I thought about it a while ago but the realized i would have to change a lot of stuff, then i would also have to get a ram air hood cause the 99+ TB wont work in the 93-97 fbody.
I think it would be to much hassle for little or no gain.2000 Black T/A M6 343rwhp 349rwtq
11.94 @ 118 60\'1.79 Stock Internal
http://www.cardomain.com/id/demonicbird00
AIM: W68Firebird97
R.I.P... i wasn't looking to change the tb, just the intake, and bolt my cable driven tb up to it. vi don't want that drive by wire crap, just a straight shot throught the intakeyou can\'t get off if you don\'t get on

I believe the size and shape of the tb's are different on the end that mates to the intake. I was thinking about this a while back to, and magnus chimed in and said he had checked them out and they were definitely different tb's on the intake end.\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

I wonder if the 2000+ intake could be drilled for the older style throttle body?Kelly \'GhoSSt\' Rosato
1996 Impala SS, 385ci LT4, 52mm TB, Quad1 headers, !Cats, !EGR, !AIR, Hooker Catback, SLP TC, UK3, UL0, GM CD changer, Onstar®, Homelink® Remote, lots of Fleetwood, Denali & 9C1 Stuff.
1998 Z28 Convertable (stock at the moment)
1993 Caprice 9C1, 406ci MPFI, overhead console, 8-way Riviera seats, DVD, CD Changer, etc..
1977 Volvo w/ 3.8l V6 from a 1998 Firebird

that's exactly what i want to try. i hate having that angle in my intake tract, but i don't want to do a full swap to the 2000+ tb and computer. someone's already said the tb's don't match up, but i can get around that as long as the upper section of the 2000 will match the lower of the 98.you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on

So what was the story?
