how would i tell if i have water in my engine... n if i do, how do i get it out?

well i raised my airbox ALOT and then im cutting out those holes from the front of the hood and it rains everynow and then here so at 65mph im thinking water will definately hit the filter... so if it does, then how bad is if for water to get into the engine?
