• midas couldn't install my flowmaster

I bought a flowmaster 80 series from summit and brought it to midas to get it put on my car. They tell me they can't do it because its the wrong kind, they said its only for a V8. I ask how is it the wrong kind and they say that the inlet on the muffler is 3 inches and my stock piping is 2.25. I told them I already knew this and know of many people who have this exact muffler on a V6. They tell me it won't fit. So then I ask why they can't just use a pipe reducer on the inlet? The moron proceeds to tell me they don't have those. I was like WTF??? This is a muffler shop how could you not have those? He then tries to get me to buy a 2.5 inch ravin muffler. I just walked out.

There aren't many muffler shops in my area, do you guys think I should try meineke or would they give me the same BS that midas gave me?

Try a mom and pop shop, those guys usually know performance and they will probably be cheaper... plus they cant afford to turn people away and get bad word of mouth...

Go to your local auto parts store, grab a reducer off the shelf, take it and your muffler back to Midas and tell the guy "weld this to this to this".

I actually stopped by Midas today too. I asked them how much it would be to install a Dynomax Super Turbo if I brought one in. He said he doesn't install mufflers you have yourself, only theirs  . Basically they want you to pay more to buy their Ravins. I said whatever, turned around and walked out. Jerks  .

That's probably why they wouldn't put mine on.

The Midas were I got my Ravin installed IS a mom and pop shop. They said they hate the way flowmasters sound, and they wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole.

Midas is a franchise, all locally owned. Of course they want you to buy theirs.

Someone mentioned this before, but I just thought about it. They charge you a lot for non-mandrel bent pipe. I paid $250 for a Ravin and stainless 3"x12" tips installed, and those bends on the pipes look soo thin

just go in yellow pages and look for car - performance or car - muffler and you should come up with plenty of places to look. Instead of car, look under automobile and then the sub-categories I mentioned. A muffler w/install should be around $100 FYI.

5 hours??? How could that be possible to do in 5 hours. Try to get people in your area to help you with the header install. They will want like 500 bucks for it and at that rate they'll take 2-3 days to install headers. EEK!

I agree ya'll are getting ripped off. My whole set up has run me about $160 and change. that included welding flanges to my cat, making an off road pipe, mandrel bending the pipe al the way out the back.

If your in FtWorth its Circle H mufflers. He might charge more cause he said mine was more work than he thought.

man.. I had great experience with my local midas.. muffler on my old jimmy went out.. so I bought a dynomax catback.. but needed an intermediate pipe also.. well midas was the only one who could sell it to me.. bought it.. when the catback came from summit the outlet for the intermediate pipe and the muffer were the same diameter.. brought it to the midas... dude took the muffler to the back... used a machine to expand the inlet on the muffler.. so the intermediate pipe would slide in.. handed the muffler back to me and said.. have a nice day.. had never been in there before.. or needed to go in there since, but was very pleased with my experience..

I wouldn't go to a Midas unless I knew someone there. I got my Ravin at a chain called CarX, and they did an awesome job. You can find a place to do the work, it isn't hard, they just wanted to sucker you into buying something you don't need.
