  • MagnaFlow .or. Flowmaster

The first upgrade Im getting for my camaro is to get a Cat-Back Exahaust system. And I was wondering what are the pros and cons of a Magnaflow and Flowmaster. The Mag is more $$ but does that translate into more better performance? Just wondering... thanks for your help.

I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for, so I would say yes. But thats probably a bias opinion since I have the magnaflow myself.

I'm not saying the flowmaster isn't good, but its the cheapest aftermarket system. Just something to think about.

i dont want to say you should get the flowmaster just because i own one, but my own opinion is that i like it alot and get alot of good compliments on its sound.

Check out the exhaust sound clips. Its one of the first posts in the exhaust section.

i have magnaflow on mine...the first few days when breaking it in it sounds a little raspy...but once its broken in it sounds real nice actually and a deep gargle at idol that sounds 100% like a v8...most of the flowmasters i have heard..sound good at idol but above 3 grand sound like a pissed off weedwacker...i would recommend the magnaflow but make sure you get the kit with the S pipe. When i installed my magnaflows i hooked the exhaust up from the S pipe back....it sounded like crap and i didnt really notice a difference. But then i went and installed the Magnaflow S pipe and it changed everything and made it a deeper tone. I love it

magnaflow is gonna be stainless steel so it won't rust and rot away from the salt on the roads. the sound difference is pure preference.

flowmaster MIGHT have a better sound
magnaflow has more flow (thats why its completely 3" open), so it is better performance

conclusion: get the magnaflow, it might be cheaper on ebay

So will the FlowMaster rot more easily on salty roads....? I live in Nebraska so salt is a common thing on our roads. Actually I'm sitting through a snow storm right now.... ohhhh im bored.

                          h2o + Na(salt) = bad news to metal

I just got the 2.5" Flowmaster catback with a Magnaflow cat and i love it. It has a nice deep rumble to it at idle and sounds good under load. I noticed a good performance gain also. The pipes are aluminized steel not as good as Magnaflows stainless steel kits but still doesn't rust that easily and for the price you can't go wrong!

When you say get the kit with the S-pipe, is that just inclued in the standerd kit, or does it have to be added specially?
