I just order 3 inch dual tips (2 on each side) for my car. I was wondering what characters of tips change the pitch. ie. Do dual tips on each side sound lower in pitch or louder than regular tips. Does the diameter affect anything? Does slanted cut do anything?

I will argue this untill the day i die, Different tips do NOT make and exhaust sound any different noticably, the change is quieter or louder, the only way you will notice it being louder is if you have a 18"long tip that measures 6" in diameter. See what im getting at, most tips are 3" to 4" in diameter right, whether they are dual round, slashed, or square, that doesnt and will not effect the sound, i actually learned this at several muffler shops. ;)99 Firebird Vert, Pewter Metalic
Fast Toys Ram Air
Jet Stage 2 Chip
17x8 Mille Miglia Emotion II Plus\'
wrapped in 245/35/17 Yokohama A520
Rhino Perf. it makes a difference...the smaller the difference in the tip, the less the difference in sound...Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

i agree some larger tips might give off a more of an echo sound because its like sticking a megaphone on it (those things that cheerleaders have whatever there called) so im sure it does something thats just my .02 cents :D94 chevy truck - SOLD!!
92 toyota tercel - beater SOLD!!
88 Rx7 se - SOLD !!
88 MAZDA RX7 CONVERTIBLE NOW

The larger tips probably do sound louder, but with my Flowmaster muffler I really don't need louder. I like my dual tips a lot and they sound and look nice.

I have a 97 3.8 with a Flowmaster 80 series and dual tips...it sounds real mean, I love it! But I think the difference in the tip definitely makes a difference in the sound. I've seen other 3.8L's with dual tips and they sound a lot meaner than the ones with quad tips. Plus, the shape of the tip does matter. I've found that 2.5" or 3" dual tips makes the car sound a lot deeper..I heard a 3.8 the other day with Z28 tips and all it did was bark.1997 Camaro RS A4
3.08 Rear
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/470169
Mods:
SLP Cold Air Intake
Flowmaster 80 Series Muffler
MSD Ignition Coils
Soon to be installed:
3.42 Gears
MSD Plug Wires

you should have done a search... to sum it up, they absorb higher pitched frequency(sound waves) and smooth out the sound... in doing so they also quiet the exhaust some.99 3800 NBM Camaro - (Xcessive Xcelleration Racing Team)
Ram/Cold Air Induction (custom)
Modified 4l60e Valve Body
Z28 Catback
SS Hood
Modified 99 GM 3800II
JB Performance Engineering
jfbperformance@cox.net
