  • Exhaust Leak Help!!!

Ok, I'm starting to get alittle scared driving around for awhile without my new inspection sticker. After installing my Pacesetter headers i have never really completely sealed out the exhaust. Right now, I can feel exhaust leaking from the half inch metal hose coming out of the drivers side header of my 98 firebird. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I can't seem to line up the header and the stupid hose to get a nice clean insert. I bought the "cut your own gasket" stuff which didn't work well at all... I'll continue playing with it but I was just wondering if anyone else had had this problem and how did they solve it???

I think your refering to the EGR tube. What I had done when I got my pacesetters was grind down the inside of the EGR inlet on the headers to remove that metal flash so the tube would fit in all the way.
Then I took some Ultra Copper RTV silicone and caked it around lip, took a pair of vice grips and clamped it on the top, then tightend the bolt and let it dry for a couple minutes then started up the car and let it idle and heat up to finish cureing, took the vice grips off and have never had a problem since

I just put on my Clear Image headers man and I had the same problem with my EGR gube not sealing properly. Just make sure that the part of the tube that inserts into the hole is not bent, but it fit is try to straighten the edges out and make it round as you can to fit into the hole. That tube is made of flex metal so it won't break easily. So just pull it over towrdst the fender some and bend it around to where u can get it in the hole nicely and then bolt it to the header and it shoudl seal up good. This is what i did and now i don't have a problem with it.

Okay, yeah, it sounds like it is this EGR tube... I tried to bend it to get a better angle at the openning of the headers and the freaking thing halfway snapped up at the other end of the tube!!! How can I go about replacing this tube you guys??? HELP!!!!
