  • New Free Airbox Mod

Well from a little inspiration from RedAutomobile airbox, I took out my dremel and hand saw and took it to the next level.

Since I already Functional Nostrils and raised my airbox, I wanted to open the front of the airbox up.

I cut out all the plastic between the metal clips on the front of the airbox. I made sure to stay below the the rubber filter seal. So now the whole front of the airbox is open.

In caparison with the FRA, this seems to work just as well, and doesn't get the filter dirty so fast.

This is just one step, in a plan of mine for a final product. I will post pics of my whole new setup when I finish it.

I would be careful about driving in any rain/snow. Once the filter gets wet the car is probably going to have issues maintaining idle/running. Its going to be sucking air through the filter and misting water into the engine.

I have tested the whole idea for water resistants, and so far I don't get any moister on the filter, even in heavy rains at highway speeds.

one thing you can do that doesn't seem to hurt flow too much is get one of those bondo body filler screen things... i had some sittin around for my old K-5 but they wound up under my airbox and performance is the same, but sticky side down they have been keeping debris and water out of my airbox with a noticeable improvement (some is left on the bottom when i get home) for like 2 weeks now
