• Pacesetter header install: UPDATE!

I have been searching high and low for the bolt size needed. All I could find on our site was that the LSX header bolts will also work just fine. I found that the size needed is 8mm-1.25 x 22mm on several websites. Can anyone confirm this for me???

Thanks for the help. This afternoon, we are putting on my Pacesetter Ceramics! Then as soon as we get the tranny back on, I'll post some sound clips ASAP. I'll be doing clips of the stock exhaust manifolds (tubular), stock cat, and open cut-out with cam. Then headers, no cat, cutout closed through stock signle outlet muffler. Then headers, no cat, cutout open. Should sound nice and lopey with the big cam! Stay tuned!

    Um... They should be 5/16 -18 x 1 bolts.

According to ARP's catalog they don't make any of those. So I'll probably be hitting a hardware store.

Any bolt that is part of the engine should be standard, everything else is metric.

Update: We finished the actual header and y-pipe install. The PaceSetter ceramics came with nice gaskets and new header bolts in case anyone was wondering! All that's left is tomorrow getting some piping for the !CAT mod we are doing, and welding it all up. Went ahead and replaced the O2 sensors while we were there (front only since I'm gonna have to run a sim on the rear one). Now we have to wait for my tranny to be finished (see driveline for details on that mess), and we can finally crank her up!

Install took right at 6 hours start to finish, some of that being less productive than it easily could have been, but not bad for our first time at it on a V6. More later.

Dropping the tranny last weekend one night after I got off work...a little over 2 hours to drop it. Taking off manifolds (heat shields are the worst part) too about 2 hours. The rest was spent taking out time trying not to scrape up the finish on the new headrs and making everything work right the first time.

HINT ON INSTALL: get some RTV or even regular super glue. Put a little smear in the two regions of the header between the input to the primaries. Then apply some to the same spot on the gasket. et them dry a minute, then stick them togetehr and make sure they are alligned. This way, you just put it as one piece right into place, and don't have to fight the gasket and lining everything up. It's just threading a bolt at this point. That helped us alot!

Alright, everything is done including the tranny!! Two problems.

                1) The '00+ cars will be a slight PITA to make the EGR adapt to the new headers. My tubing from the valve to manifold was all rusty and broke easily. Time for a blockoff plate, no biggie!

                2) Sicne we welded a section of pipe in place of the cat, things don't hang just exactly the way they did. Now, I have a small occasional knock on the udnerside where the I-pipe is hitting the carriage. SOLUTION: Cut a sdmall hole in the k-memebr right there and be done. This way the memebr still supports and braces the car, but no knocking.

It was a fairly easy install really, just little things to watch for. The Pacesetter headers get a big from me!

what size is the end of the y-pipe going to the cat?> gonna get them this week, gotta know asap

any other problems? such as #5(or#4 i forget) wire touching headers? or anything(leak issues to watch for?

getting mine without coating, and having them shipped directly to jet hot. Totals $345 shipped to my door, if anyone else is interested ill forward the email.

The end of th y-pipe ging to the cat is 3", which will fit nicely with your cat if you follow their instructions on where to cut in front of the cat. I had my tranny dropped because I lost 5th gear and reverse, so while we were waiting for it to be repaired, we threw on some Pacesetter ceramics! #3 (middle wire driver's side) and I think #4 (middle passenger side) are pretty close. I have Accel straight booted wires on, and that's the problem. The driver's side is no biggie, just that one wire I had to use a zip tie to kind of hang it up off the header. On the passnegr side, I could really use that one 90 degree boot to make it all good. But so far no melting boot or anything with it rigt at touching. 90* boots would be a good thing at this point.

Have you done a lot of work on your car before? Just wondering if it would be a simple install for someone that's never really done much more than change oil or something. I'd like to give it a try since it's just unbolting and bolting parts back in, but I'm also kinda apprehensive since I havent done anything much at all to my car before.

the only real problem is that they are such a PITA to get at and from what i understand, more of a PITA to get the new headers manuvered into place. one has to go in from the top, one from the bottom. if you havent worked on a car much before it can be frustrating when you've skinned all your knuckles getting the old bolts out and then cant get the headers in place. if you can keep your cool, it should be something you can do. worst case scenario is you bust one of the bolts trying to get it out.
