• Cat heat shielding off...dangerous?

so i finally check out what it is that exactly is making that obnoxious rattling in my exhaust system. Turns out that the heat shielding sorrounding the cat had lost the bottom half and the top was just bouncing around. I decided to remove the top portion, seeing as there was no bottom portion. The Rattling is gone, but my question to you guys is: Is it dangerous to leave the cat without the heat shield? Their doesnt seem to be anything flamable or in imediate danger.

As always your opinions and input are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Nah, the damn thing just rattles around anyway. The only head shielding you need is the stuff around the fuel tank.

Funny you should mention this, I know someone who lost a car this way. Parked on a pile of dry leaves, about 15 minutes later looked outside and saw his car on fire! This can happen even with the shielding BTW, those converters get really hot.

That not parking over leaves crap is even in the owners manual. 95 Blazer & 99 GPGT have that crap in it. teh 85 might too, but I keep that special book in a safe place.

I had mine off for a few months and I was fine. Just watch it is you are off-roading, but otherwise, you will be fine.
